Wet weather and landscaping

June 9, 2015

Now that summer is here and we are planting and landscaping outside of our homes, remember to keep flowers and shrubs at least 6 inches away from the house. Vegetation that is right against the house can hold moisture near the foundation and that can cause problems down the road. Be sure to maintain a good gap between shrubs and the side of your house. This also goes for HVAC units as well. We want to make sure that they are free of leaves and branches, and that you keep your landscaping away from them so that they can perform properly.

With the rainy weather that we have been having lately, it is also a good idea to make sure that gutters are cleaned and that downspout extensions are long enough to carry water far enough away from your home. This prevents water from collecting next to your foundation and possibly penetrating the structure. To ensure that this doesn’t happen, make sure that your downspout extensions are somewhere between 4 to 6 feet from your house.

Just a few small tips for the exterior of our homes!

Spring time

April 16, 2015

Now that winter is passed and spring is in full swing, it is a good time to make sure that our gutters are cleaned.  We also want to make sure that our downspout extensions are long enough to carry water away from your home. This prevents it from collecting next to your foundation and possibly penetrating the structure. To assure that this doesn’t happen, make sure that your downspout extensions are somewhere between 4 to 6 feet from your house.

We also want to make sure that when we are planting and maintaining any landscaping, that we keep it away from the house a  few inches. Vegetation that is right against the house can hold moisture there and that can cause problems. So be sure to maintain a good gap between you shrubs and the side of your house.

You want to make sure that they are free of leaves and branches and that you keep your landscaping away from them so that they can perform properly. downspout-extension-too-short
